Sagrada Família - The Basilica and Church of the Holy Family

I mentioned the Sagrada Família (or Basilica and Church of the Holy Family) in my previous post. The building is so impressive (to a good little Catholic boy such as myself) that I needed to do a post on it by itself. It is amazing to look at ... so detailed, so impressive, so beautiful. It is like no church I have ever seen before!

The Cathedral was to be Gaudi's opus. Construction began in 1882. When Gaudi died in 1926, less than a quarter of it was built. It's still under construction and not due for completion until 2026. It was consecrated in 2010 by the Pope.

I was a little surprised that it was $13 to get in the door (and they were lining up around the block for the privilege) but at least the cost is paying to complete it. There was also a gift shop on site ... again, i found this strange. But hey ... if there's a profit to be made, god knows the Catholics will make it! hahaha
