Catch-up - Varadero

I think four days in Havana was long enough. I was ready to spend some time somewhere a little more upmarket, and that was exactly what I was expecting from my next destination. And that destination was the five-star, beach-side Iberostar resort at Varadero. Everything I had read about it online was good – it was rated number 1 as best hotel/resort in Varadero on Trip Advisor; it was beach-side; had a massive pool; nice looking rooms; five or six different restaurants; bars; and to top it all off it was all-inclusive – one fee and you’re drinking, eating and having a much fun as you can. And in a happy twist of fate Rene, our tour guide from Thursday met us at the departure point and was the tour guide on the bus from Havana to the resort. It was nice to see him again!

Sadly, there was a minor speed bump on the road to the resort. I developed a “stomache” complain. I woke up not feeling 100% but was hoping it would pass. I didn’t. By the time we got to the resort I was feeling awful and after a quick walk around with Kathryn I retired to my bedroom, took some medicine Mum had sent with me (great work, Mum!) and hit the hay. The phone rang and woke me up. It was Kathryn, asking how I was and if I was up to eating. I suggested I may be feeling better by dinner time, not knowing that I had been sleeping for more than 5 hours and that it was now 6pm. I certainly wasn’t up for eating and after a bit of a sickness episode I went back to bed. A bit of a lost day sadly!

Thankfully i gradually got better and got back into the swing of holidaying. Waking up; having some breakfast; spending the morning by the pool or on the beach; having some lunch; having a siesta; heading back to the pool or beach; having a few drinks; more swimming; perhaps some reading; then finish the day with a nice meal and a show in the resort's theatre. IT WAS TOUGH ... I tell you! hahaha
